GMS North and South Eighth-Grade Field Trip Postponed Due to Weather

The annual Geneva Middle School North eighth-grader field trip to Great America has been pushed to Tuesday because of predicted thunderstorms.

The eighth-grade class at Geneva Middle School North was supposed to to to Great America on Wednesday.

That won't happen until the following Tuesday, thanks to some bad news from Mother Nature. The forecast for Wednesday includes a 90 percent chance of rain, according to the National Weather Service seven-day forecast.

GMS North Principal Larry Bidlack let parents know through an e-mail from Geneva304Connects.

"Due to the weather forecast calling for severe thunderstorms throughout the day tomorrow, we have rescheduled the Great America field trip for Tuesday, May 31," he said. "The safety of our students and staff is always our primary concern and the reason for rescheduling the trip.  Great America has assured us that the tickets will be valid on Tuesday.

"I understand that rescheduling this trip may cause conflicts with previously scheduled after school activities/appointments next Tuesday.  I hope the conflicts are minimal and that arrangements can be made to reschedule them."

Students were made aware of the trip being rescheduled in an announcement during their lunch period.  A note also will be sent home with eighth-graders this afternoon.

"I want to thank the GMS North staff for their flexibility in accommodating this change and our transportation staff for rescheduling our buses.  I hope the Great America trip will be much safer and more enjoyable for our students and staff." Bidlack said.

GMS South Principal Terry Bleau issued a similar announcement at 4:50 p.m.
