GHS Hall of Fame: Soccer Star Katy Lindenmuth Green Led Wisconsin to Big Ten All-Conference Title

Part 2 of 4: Wisconsin volleyball star Katy Lindenmuth Green will be inducted into the Geneva High School Athletic Hall of Fame at Saturday's halftime versus St. Charles East.

Katy Lindenmuth Green, Geneva High School class of 2002, is one of three Geneva legends who will be inducted into the 2012 GHS Athletic Hall of Fame.

A two-sport star in high school who achieved All-Conference status in volleyball in the fall, Katy Lindenmuth truly excelled in the spring sport of soccer. She helped lead the Vikings to a four-season record of 81-11-7 during her 1999-2002 career, earning All-Conference designation all four springs, and All-State status for both her junior and senior seasons.

In her senior season of 2002, Lindenmuth was the All-Western Sun Conference MVP, and was selected both as the Daily Herald’s Player of the Year and the Sun Newspapers’ Spring Athlete of the Year—all while also earning membership in the National Honor Society.

Moving on to the University of Wisconsin on a soccer scholarship, Lindenmuth was honored as the Badgers’ Freshman Player of the Year in 2002 and later became a two-time All-Big Ten Conference selection, was twice named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week, and was selected to the Academic All-Big Ten Team as well.

She led Wisconsin in both assists and total points as a sophomore in 2003, and made NCAA Tournament appearances with the Badgers in 2002, 2004 and 2005. By the time she finished her collegiate career in fall 2005, she was the Badgers’ all-time leader in games played with 92, and in games started with 90.

She helped lead Wisconsin to the Big Ten women’s soccer title in 2005. Lindenmuth earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and communication from Wisconsin in 2006, and a master’s in education from Chicago’s DePaul University in 2009. She is presently a learning behavior specialist at Willmette Junior High School.

Two other inductees, running back and track athlete Derek Swanson and "Voice of the Vikings" PA announcer Kurt Wehrmeister, also will be honored Saturday.

The 12th annual induction ceremonies for the Vikings’ Athletic Hall of Fame is scheduled for halftime of the Geneva-vs.-St. Charles East varsity
basketball game. The game starts at 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, in the school’s main contest gymnasium.
