's Footloose lip dub is no longer on the Kane County Chronicle website, but it isn't back on YouTube yet—at least as far as this editor could find.
The extremely cool student-made video was on Nov. 11 with the help of about 600 Geneva students from 40-plus clubs, athletic teams and service groups, and it was posted to .
But the video on or before Saturday, Nov. 26, due to copyright issues.
The Kane County Chronicle has posted an explanation of what happened.
"Mike Van Der Harst, the Chronicle's features editor, took a video of the event that was posted on KCChronicle.com, and the video produced by the high school students also was posted once it was available.
"Mistakenly, below the student-produced video, there was a link to our company multimedia store, where readers can buy photos and videos created by Chronicle staff. ... The Geneva student-produced video was never for sale, and the Kane County Chronicle did not sell a single copy.
"We are now aware that the video produced by the students is no longer is available on You Tube, so we have removed the video from our site."
I did my best to search YouTube, but couldn't find the Geneva lip dub as of around 9:30 a.m. The lip dub "raw video," which is kind of like the "making of the lip dub" is up there, if you'd like to take a look.
I called the high school this morning and talked with Assistant Superintendent Patty O'Niel, who said teachers and students at the high school had been trying to contact YouTube. But as of yet, "I don't know if they've been successful" in reaching an actual, live human being who might be able to help get the video in a place where folks can see it and enjoy it.
