Geneva Band Seeks Public's Help to Buy New Uniforms

Many uniforms have become thread-bare and the inventory of "wearable" uniforms doesn't equal the number of students enrolled in the band program.

Geneva High School's marching band is using 17-year-old uniforms, so band leaders and music boosters are asking community members to help fund new ones via a "Sponsor-A-Uniform" campaign.

You can see samples of the new uniform in the display window of the Geneva Cleaners at 130 W. State St.

The present uniforms were purchased with the support of the School District, music boosters and community members.

"While dedicated volunteers and band directors have exceeded expectations in making these uniforms last, it is time for them to be replaced," says a flyer sent via 304 Connects.

Why new uniforms?

Despite the excellent care these uniforms have received, after 17 years of wear they are at the point where alterations are no longer the solution. Over the years, many of the uniforms have become thread-bare and our inventory of “wearable” uniforms is insufficient for the larger number of students enrolled in the band program.

What does a new uniform have to offer?

The new uniforms, pictured on this page, consist of a marching uniform as well as a concert tuxedo for the gentlemen and a concert dress for the ladies. This will finally allow all of Concert Band, Percussion Methods, Symphonic Band and Wind Symphony students to have uniforms that are consistent with other high school music programs.

This will also enable our students to participate in extra-curricular music events wearing attire that is appropriate and proudly represent Geneva High School and the community.

Specifically, the new uniforms are made of a more breathable, wearable fabric which will make the students more comfortable at performances, and is easier to clean and maintain. Another perk of the new marching uniform is that they have snaps inside the sleeves and pants to adjust the length, thereby eliminating the need for yearly alterations by hand. The new styles will also make it easier to fit a wide range of student sizes.

What can you do to help?

To help the GHS Band Department achieve its goal, you can become a part of the “SPONSOR-A-UNIFORM” campaign. Listed in the attached flyer are options for a tax-deductible donation.

All donors will be publicly recognized.
