National Day of Listening Workshop

Do you and your family or friends have great stories you'd like to pass down to future generations?  This year StoryCorps has designated November 26 as the "National Day of Listening".  They are asking the whole country to set aside one hour on that day--the day after Thanksgiving--to record a conversation with a family member or an important friend.  While the official Day of Listening is the day after Thanksgiving, the opportunity to connect with people around you is not limited to this day or any day.  Every day day can be your own day of listening.

On Tuesday, October 12 at 7 p.m. the Geneva History Center is offering a FREE workshop to community members on how to conduct and record interviews.  GHC Educator Margaret Selakovich will guide you through the process and a Geneva High School TV Production Studio student will be on hand to walk participants through the use of recording equipment.

As we head into the holiday season, we're all looking for the right gifts for the important people in our lives.  Sitting down and recording an interview or just listening to someone whose story you'd like to hear--whether that's a grandfather, an aunt or a familiar face in your neighborhood--is one of the best gifts you can give.  Better still, it costs you nothing but an hour of your time, and the memory will out last anything you can buy.

This workshop will take place in the Community Room at the Geneva History Center, 113 South Third Street, in the heart of Geneva's downtown historical district.   Admission is free.   For more information, please call 630-232-4951.
