Corn Boil 2011 (Part 1): Food and Fun Photos!

There are so many great kids and parents and fun at the Corn Boil, we have to break it into more than one story.

It felt like I look 10,000 photos Wednesday night at the 2011 Corn Boil at Burgess Field.

And yet, I'm sure I didn't get everyone's son or daughter, so I apologize in advance.

I wasn't sure whether to just lump all this content into one gigantic, Corn Boil extravaganza story or break it into pieces. I'm going to try to do the latter, separating it into categories and running several stories, and hopefully, adding video later—because I think there was some OK video ... but it takes a long time to download and upload.

Great community journalism is about names and faces, faces and names. In this Viewfinder series, we'll be seeing a lot of faces, but not as many names as we would like.

I still remember looking forward to The Geneva Republican when I was in high school, knowing for sure that my name or photo would be in there somewhere, whether from the golf team or the band or Viking Review or senior play or whatever activity I was doing at the time.

I hope Geneva Patch can do a little of that, no matter how big the high school has become or how much the Geneva community has grown.

So, the following is subject to change, but I hope we'll be able to provide photo/video stories from the Corn Boil for each of these categories:

  • Food and Fun
  • Band
  • Corn-eating Contest
  • Athletes and Coaches
  • Dancers and Cheerleaders

This installment will include the "Food and Fun" photos. We'll run the others as soon as we can.

In addition to this series, Geneva Patch contributor Denise Linke was there and taking photos, too. We'll run and , because you just can't get too many names and faces.

Tune in, because there's a really good chance you'll see someone you know and love.
