Congratulations, Grad—Er, Promotees From Eighth Grade!

In eighth grade, it's a promotion, not a graduation, just so you know. Congratulations to all Geneva promotees.

My daughter is a stickler about this—and so are a lot of people, actually.

When you move from eighth grade to high school, it's a "promotion" and not a "graduation." Just so you know.

I have to apologize, as always, to the Eighth Grade White group at and all of h for not providing photos of your graduation ceremonies. I ask any and all parents, guardians, grandparents or family friends to contribute your photos here.

An announcement is like a classifieds "happy ad," only free. The categories include graduation, honor roll, school awards and promotions. (Although I think that last is meant for job promotions rather than school promotions.) Ditto on the major feature offer: I'll feature your favorite child's photo on the home page if you include a photo with your announcement send me an e-mail.

But I digress.

Monday's promotion ceremony at GHS North was terrific—well-organized, efficient, fast and fun. There were touching, brief speeches by Principal Larry Bidlack and Superintendent Kent Mutchler.

Larry had a great take on the "glass half full / glass half empty" theme, and Kent emphasized just a few key thoughts for high school and for life—dream, explore your passions, remember to say thank you, tell people that you love them.

The show-stealer was a terrific back-and-forth remembrance of middle school—a funny script, well-delivered by Killian Tracey and Andrew VanThournout.

American Legion awards went to Abby Novak and Connor Weddle, with honorable mentions to Kate Rogers and Jason Lagger.

Enjoy the photos, add your own.

Congratulations, eighth-graders!
