'Camp Invention' Coming This Summer for Kids Entering Grades 1-6

This is a really cool five-day camp where kids can learn a lot of those problem-solving and teamwork skills that are so valuable in real life. Plus it sounds like great fun.

If you have kids in grade school, you've probably seen the registration forms come home with your kids.

But since everything that goes into a kid's backpack doesn't always end up within parents' eyeshot, we thought it might be a good idea to Patch this out there. Here's the information, courtesy of Geneva Community School District 304.

In partnership with Invent Now, Geneva District 304 is offering the nationally-acclaimed Camp Invention program to children entering grades 1 through 6 this summer.

Camp Invention is a weeklong adventure in creativity that immerses children in imaginative play that reinforces and supplements school-year learning in the subjects of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM), as well as history and the arts. Children work together to seek innovative solutions to real-world problems and sharpen critical 21st century learning skills such as teamwork and creative problem solving as they rotate through five modules each day.

The week begins on June 20, when Dan Medernach will direct the Camp Invention CREATE program at Mill Creek Elementary School.

In the Problem Solving on®Planet ZAK module, children will crash-land on an alien planet, where they collect important data about its environment to help them design shelters and space suits able to survive the planet’s harsh living conditions.

Children will explore “green” city design and create an eco-friendly infrastructure by instituting pollution-free water filtration systems, landfills, waste disposal systems, and transportation powered by renewable resources in the Saving Sludge City™ module.

In the Imagination Point:Ride Physics™ module, children will investigate the science behind thrill rides by experimenting with Newton’s Laws of Motion to understand concepts like inertia, momentum, and centripetal force.

Children will use nontraditional equipment (such as water balloons) to add their own twists to classicgames in the Game On: Power Play™ module.

Finally, a participant favorite, children will be introduced to tool safety when they disassemble a discarded household appliance and use its pieces and parts to invent a working, multi-step machine in the I Can Invent: Edison’s Workshop™ module.

Local educators will facilitate program modules, and enthusiastic high school and college students will serve as program counselors—ensuring that one staff member is in place for every eight children.

Register on or before April 30 for only $50 down and receive $25 OFF the base price of $215 when you register with a friend. Every registration includes a free Camp Invention T-shirt.
