Beth Bales: Savor the Last Day of Summer Freedom

School begins Wednesday. Enjoy Tuesday!

OK, Geneva parents and kids. You don’t need me to tell you this, but it’s the last day of summer vacation! One more day of freedom (besides that early-to-bed idea parents undoubtedly have, for a good night’s sleep before Wednesday’s opening bell.) How to spend it? Here are a few ideas.

Check out the butterfly house at Peck and Kaneville roads.

Enjoy the new Disc Golf Course at Wheeler Park, which just had its grand opening Saturday.

Go shopping, downtown and at the Geneva Commons. Help out a local establishment and eat lunch out, while you’re out and about.

Walk or bike along the Fox River, the Peck Farm trail or other walking paths. (Bicyclists, please be nice. Announce your presence to walkers.)

Take in a movie.

Go swimming at , if the thunderstorms (40 percent chance) stay away.

Play miniature golf at Stone Creek.

Try not to whine about having to start school.

Organize those school supplies.

Simply enjoy that last day before the onslaught of schedules, permission slips, buses and bells (not to mention homework.)

And high school students? DON’T do what students at Naperville North apparently did: attend drinking parties and show up on the first day possibly . Suspensions have begun.
