A to Z Salad Bar at Schools This Week

Geneva's elementary schools are going green, so to speak. Every school will have an A to Z salad bar that will help kids learn about eating right.

From apples to zucchini, the fruits and vegetables will be flying into kids' mouths this week at Geneva School District 304 elementary schools.

The foodservice department is hosting a fun and educational program called "A to Z Salad Bar" the week of March 14 through 18.

Sponsored by Sodexo, the district’s foodservice provider, A to Z Salad Bar is designed to explain the many benefits of eating fruits and vegetables while introducing children to some new varieties of produce.

The event includes a self-service salad bar containing fruits and vegetable that begin with each letter of the alphabet. During the one week A to Z Salad Bar event, students will be encouraged to try a variety of healthy foods and to include more fruits and vegetables in meals and snacks.

This year, something new has been added: a tasting table set up at each school for one day during the week. All students will be able to come forward and taste a new fruit or vegetable that they may not have tasted before. Fun activity sheets will be available on the day of the taste testing for children to take home and share with family.

If you have questions about the A to Z Salad Bar or any other foodservice event, call Sodexo General Manager Becky Selcke at 630-463-3827.
