A Parent's-Eye View: Check Out This Cavalcade of Great Teachers at Back to School Night

Part 1: Back To School Night is one of those annual traditions that feels like a dreadful obligation—until you get there. Here's a parent's-eye view of some of the wonderful teachers at Geneva Middle School North.

OK, I have to start with an apology to David Kimball.

He's the social studies teacher who catapults himself happily every day into the first-hour class on my daughter Tricia's schedule at Geneva Middle School North. I missed his Back to School Night introduction because I was parking the car. Paula says he is terrific and really excited about teaching, and I could have sworn she said he was in Room 143. 

This is how it is at Back to School Night, which is still going on for some Geneva schools this week. You rush to get there, cursing yourself for taking the time from your job or dinner or walking the dog, and you wedge the car in next to the garbage cans while your spouse dashes for the entrance, and when you finally get inside the classroom ...

Magic.

That's really the only way to describe it. Maybe it's different for some, but I always come away feeling that school is just about the coolest thing ever, and our kids are in pretty good hands.
