To achieve this distinction, Wyllie placed among the top 5 percent of more than 1 million students who entered the 2012 competition by taking the 2010 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

The students were presented with Tradition of Excellence Awards at the Geneva School Board meeting held April 9 at the Coultrap facility. Geneva High School Principal Tom Rogers presented the awards.

"I'm pretty sure I’m going to be at each meeting until the end of the school year," Rogers said, because there are so many students who've earned recognition.

One of those, who also was honored April 9, was Mike Trimble. The GHS junior advanced to both the regional and sectional of the Illinois High School Association 3-point Showdown. That put him among the top 32 shooters in Class 4A who competed in the championship round March 15 at Peoria.
