The National Weather Service Chicago has a Wind Chill Advisory and Hazardous Weather Outlook in place for the Tri-Cities area.
Snow is supposed started Monday afternoon and was expected to continue through the a.m. hours.
If you're traveling, be aware of what the NWS is calling "an intense band of lake effect snow" along the southern edge of Lake Michigan. That includes parts of Cook in Illinois and Lake and Porter counties in Indiana.
Conditions will vary greatly in a short distance.
The real danger, of course, is the upcoming, seemingly endless polar-vortex cold. The Wind Chill Advisory is in effect from 3 a.m. until 10 a.m. Tuesday, when it's supposed to get down to -25.
But it's supposed continue to be cold for awhile. Overnight and early morning wind chills could again drop to -20 Tuesday night through Friday morning, the NWS-C says.
Localized river flooding remains possible.
