100-Degree Heat Indices, Storms Likely in Geneva — Batavia on Peak Alert
The "threat is strongest" Tuesday evening and the most intense storms could produce cloud-to-ground lightning, heavy downpours, hail of up to an inch in diameter and wind gusts of up to 60 mph.
The NWS-C warns that the temperatures in the low or middle 90s along with moderate humidity will produce an air mass that will help fuel strong to severe thunderstorms late Tuesday afternoon or early evening.

The city of Batavia, meanwhile, issued a Peak Alert from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, asking residents to postpone electric usage during that time period, if possible.
"Today's alert is due to heat and humidity across the PJM market area and the local area. The weather forecast indicates a high probability of alerts the rest of the week," Batavia Electric Superintendent Robert Rogde said in an email release.

"If you are out in the heat, please be careful and drink fluids. Please remember to check on your neighbors and relatives. Don’t forget your pets, the heat affects them, too," Rogde said.
