Whitewater Rafting Course, Floating Gardens Part of Fox River Plan

Would you use a white water rafting course in downtown St. Charles? Tell us in the comments section.

The St. Charles River Corridor Foundation is proposing an ambitious plan for the Fox River, which would include floating botanical gardens, splash pads and interactive water features and a whitewater rafting course in downtown St. Charles, according to the Daily Herald.

The foundation is expected to form a task force to study its plan in coming months, will hold meetings where they will seek public comment and is hoping to hire consultants by the end of 2014 to review the plan, according to the article. If everything stays on track, the city of St. Charles could be soliciting construction bids by February 2015, according to the Daily Herald.

In 2002, the St. Charles River Corridor Foundation drafted its River Corridor Master plan. (View the full 2002 River Corridor Master plan HERE).

As part of this plan, the proposed white water rafting course would involve moving the downtown dam in St. Charles back to the railroad tracks, increase the flow of the water and add boulders, according to the article.

"With the Fox River as its focus, the River Corridor’s mission is to create a lively downtown riverfront environment — a community centerpiece — where residents and visitors can live, work, shop, dine, and play," according to the St. Charles River Corridor Foundation's website.
