WATCH (Surprise Ending!): Video Trip of Route 38 Roadwork

Route 38 is squeezed to one lane of traffic in each direction during the construction period as work crews begin to construct overpass.

The video you're about to see shows just how long traffic is limited to one lane in each direction on Route 38, east of Geneva. It's a a video of the drive moving east to west, from West Chicago to the Union Pacific rail crossing, where a grade separation is being constructed.

A grade separation is a fancy name for an overpass, which will allow drivers to cruise over the rail crossing instead of having to wait (forever) for the freight train(s) to pass.

The good news is that this is finally happening after years of effort by the city of Geneva to make it so. The bad news, of course, is that we're in for at least a year's worth of construction work. So ... expect delays.

The fun part about this video is that you'll see the rail crossing go down ( ...wait for it ... ) —but it's not a train that passes by. It's a pickup truck gliding along on the railroad tracks. This is something we haven't seen before.

If you know more about this vehicle and/or phenomenon, let us know in the comments field.
