UPDATE: All Geneva Customers Back Up, For Now; City Asks for Energy Conservation

Power is out on far West Side of Geneva. City crews and ComEd linemen are working. Please help us by contributing your reports, and we'll keep you posted on progress.

11 A.M. UPDATE

Currently, all customers are with power. However, due to a faulty ComEd switch an outage can occur again. The city is requesting all customers to conserve on their amount of electric usage to minimize the amount of stress placed on the faulted switch.

The city also is asking for voluntary conservation of energy. If you're out of your home and can use less air conditioning, for example, you'll be helping your fellow Genevans get through a tough time.

The cause of the outage is a faulty ComEd switch. The city is putting load back on the switch, but it may not hold and customers will again be without power.  If this occurs, ComEd will need to repair switch.

The city of Geneva said at 8:55 a.m. that far West Side residents are experiencing a power outage that began as of 5:30 a.m. Monday.

The outage is affecting customers west of the river, south of Route 38 but does not include the downtown area.

The cause is a Commonwealth Edison line feeding three substations.

ComEd linemen as well as city Electric Department crews are patrolling the line, but have not found the cause. "At this time, we do not know how long the outage will last," Mayor Kevin Burns Executive Assistant Jeanne Fornari said.
