Student Art Award Winner Will Go to Washington, D.C.

Congressman Randy Hultgren will announce the winners of the 2013 Congressional Art Competition during an award ceremony which will be open to the public Friday at Water Street Studios.

Student artists from area high schools, family, friends and art teachers are encouraged to attend an event at 6 p.m. Friday, April 19, at Water Street Studios, 160 South Water St., Batavia, that will name the 2013 Congressional Art Competition winner from our district.

The Congressional Art Competition, launched in 1982, showcases two-dimensional student artwork from congressional districts at the U.S. Capitol.

High schools from throughout the 14th Congressional District participate in the competition. Winners are chosen by professional artists without prior knowledge of the artists’ names or schools.

The first-place winner also will be invited to Washington, D.C., where they will be recognized for their talent along with other young artists. The honorable mention winners will have an opportunity to display their artwork in Rep. Hultgren’s Washington, D.C., and Geneva offices.
