Shiffler Is New Library Board Member

Bob Shiffler fills the vacancy on the Library Board after Don Cummings moves to the Geneva City Council.

The Board of Trustees of the Geneva Public Library District has appointed Bob Shiffler to fill the vacant trustee position on the Library Board, according to a post on the Geneva Library District website.

Formal appointment and installation will occur at the next regular board meeting at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 1. The appointment will be effective until the date of the next library election in April 2013.

The vacancy on the Library Board occurred on Jan. 3, when Library Trustee Don Cummings was appointed to fill the open 2nd Ward aldermanic seat for the city of Geneva. Cummings replaced Bob Piper, who had moved out of the 2nd Ward.

According to the Geneva Library Foundation website, Shiffler has been a member of the foundation's Advisory Committee since 2009. After retiring from a 40-year career with Caterpillar Inc, he was looking for opportunities to contribute to the community, and the Geneva Library Foundation provided a great fit.

Bob and his wife Jane have lived in Geneva since 1975 and have enjoyed having access to a great community library, the foundation website says.
