The Illinois Department of Transportation has announced that Route 25 just south of Fox Glen Drive will reopen to normal traffic in time for the Labor Day weekend, according to a release from the .
James Bernahl, Engineering Division manager for the city of St. Charles, said Friday afternoon that IDOT notified the city this week that the contractors on the project believe they can reopen Route 25 on the morning of Friday, Aug. 31.
The city issued it’s release Friday, stating the closure would be lifted before the Labor Day weekend, which begins Saturday, Sept. 1.
The project is peripherally linked to the controversial Red Gate bridge project on the north end of St. Charles. The $30 million project will connect Red Gate Road on the west side of the Fox River to Route 25, south of Pinelands Road. A two-lane car deck and pedestrian walkway connecting a bike trail from St. Charles North High School across the river to the Fox River Trail near Pinelands Road are some of the features of the new bridge. The includes widening and reconstructing Illinois 25 and Illinois 31, along with drainage, lighting and traffic signal improvements.
