Report: State Fires Youth Prison Schools Chief
Ex-superintendent said earlier he had resigned the position to avoid embarrassing the department.
Kye D. Gaffey, the former superintendent of the Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice youth prison who said he resigned Tuesday after he and his wife were arrested Aug. 15, 2013 on charges they illegally entered a St. Charles home, has been fired, the Kane County Chronicle reports.
The Chronicle reported Friday in a story by Brenda Schory that Gaffey was terminated from his post as of Wednesday and that a public meeting is planned to open the process to find his replacement. An Illinois Department Juvenile Justice spokesman confirmed Gaffey’s dismissal.
Gaffey, 41, and his wife, Jennifer, 42, both were arrested on misdemeanor charges of trespassing and criminal property damage in the Aug. 15 incident in which the couple damaged a glass patio door when they entered the home on the 0-99 block of Southgate Course in St. Charles. Jennifer Gaffey’s 6-year-old son reportedly lives at that address with his father.
Authorities said the couple went to the home to check on the condition of the boy, but the family was gone on vacation and a housesitter called police, according to the Chronicle..

The Chronicle reported earlier in the week that Gaffey had resigned his $110,244 post to avoid embarrassing the department.
The father of the boy since has filed an emergency protection order in DeKalb County, which is where Gaffey’s wife and her former husband lived when they were married. the Chroniclereported earlier this week.
