Reminder: Geneva Garbage Collection Delayed a Day Due to Extreme Cold; Christmas Tree Pickup Delayed a Week

Christmas trees will now be picked up for free the weeks of Jan. 13 and Jan. 20 on residents' normal garbage collection day.

Just a reminder that garbage collection in Geneva will be delayed a day due to the
dangerously cold temperatures Monday.

As the city points out, this week will be similar to a holiday week, with garbage collected Friday and Saturday (Jan. 10 and 11), rather than the normal Thursday-Friday schedule.

Advanced Disposal, the city's waste hauler, also has postponed the collection of live Christmas trees, which was slated to start this week. Trees will now be picked up for free the weeks of Jan. 13 and Jan. 20 on people's normal garbage collection day.

Residents must place their live tree at the curb no later than 7 a.m. on their scheduled collection day. No refuse stickers will be required for this service.

Ornaments, hooks, nails, tinsel, garland, tree stands and other hard materials should be removed from the trees prior to disposal. Trees placed in bags at the curb will not be accepted.

All wreaths and roping must be discarded with the regular trash.
