Quick Summary: City Says Thanks to Pawlak, OKs Barbers, a Bike Race and Street Improvements

A brief summary of the Monday night meeting: Committee of the Whole has nice things to say about Ray Pawlak and gets some business done, too.

The Geneva City Council Committee of the Whole offered a fond fairwell Monday night to 3rd Ward Alderman Ray Pawlak and thanked him for his 16 years of service.

Pawlak will have another goodbye next week, with his family present, but part of the spotlight next week will be the new 3rd Ward alderman, former School Board President Dean Kilburg.

Among other items on the COW agenda were a recommendation to approve:

  • A downtown Geneva Cycling Grand Prix bicycle race on July 9,
  • Building and parking lot expansion for 2202 Gary Lane,
  • $1.15 million in street improvements, and
  • An allowance for barbershops nad hair salons as a special use in the B-3 Business District.

The ordinance amendment for the B-3 also was formally approved in a special meeting of the City Council that followed the Committee of the Whole. The B-3 district is essentially South Third Street, and the amendment will allow a very limited number of properties to be eligible for a special use permit.
