Primary 2012: 5 Countywide Offices Up for Grabs in Kane

Here's what to expect when you look at the ballot for Kane County races today.

Kane County voters today will have a chance to choose a presidential candidate, weigh in on a referendum, pick some judges and select new state representatives and senators.

But the races that hit closest to home are the county elected positions, many of which are up for grabs, as a number of longtime office-holders have bowed out or moved on.

Republicans will see contested races for these Kane County spots:

  • County Board Chairman
  • Coroner
  • Auditor
  • Circuit court clerk.

Democrats have only one contested countywide office to consider, a race for Kane County Board chairman.

Many Kane County voters also will see a referendum question regarding electricity aggregation. A "yes" vote in that referendum would give elected representatives the authority to negotiate contracts on their behalf.

Geneva, Batavia and St. Charles won't be voting in that one, because they have their own electric utilities. But voters in unincorporated Kane County, plus 18 other towns—including Montgomery, Algonquin and Huntley—will have a chance to vote.

Below is a summary of the Kane County races along with links to the Patch stories on the contested races. For more information, visit the Kane County Clerk's election page, which gives you a sample ballot when you type in your name and address.

There are a few too many races to mention in this countywide article, in part because the districts were changed this year.

To find out which district you're voting in this year, click on the Kane County Board district maps page, which shows the new boundaries of each Kane County Board seat. NOTE: Be sure to scroll to the bottom of that page, because the old maps are on top.
