Power Lines Down in 500 Block of Richards Street, Geneva

Geneva Electric Department reports to scene. Please let us know if power is out in your area.

Geneva Electric Department workers converged on an alley in teh 500 block of Richards Street around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday for a call of a power line or lines down.

A Tri-Com Dispatch report said initially that as many as three main lines might be down. That report is unconfirmed. Tri-Com reported at 3:27 p.m. that "there is no fire problem at this time."

Workers on the scene were examining the situation at around 3 p.m.

The cause is unknown, but the day was particularly windy, causing a Red Flag Warning from the National Weather Service-Chicago.

Officials ask that residents do not call to ask how long a power outage might be.

UPDATE: A @CityofGeneva tweet at 3:14 p.m. said "Electric wires down in Richards St. area. Outage time estimated at about 2 hours."

A city of Geneva e-blast said the downed lines were on Richards between North and Center streets and "the city will send further updates if warranted."

As of 10 p.m. Wednesday, there were no additional Twitter updates or e-blasts from the city of Geneva.

Readers of the Geneva Patch Facebook page reported that power was out at Geneva High School for a time but was back up at 3:05 p.m. Wednesday.
