POLL: Do School Administrators Have a Right to Demand Access to a Student's Private Facebook Pages?

Upcoming state law changes and a recent incident at Geneva Middle School South call into question how far administrators need to dig into a student's Facebook life.

Two recent stories—one involving , the other involving a new —bring into question the issue of how much access school administrators should demand regarding a student's personal social-media sites.

The Illinois Senate voted 55-0 May 22 to ban that practice of employers requiring workers or job applicants to grant access to social media sites, like Facebook. The House approved the measure in March and Gov. Pat Quinn is expected to sign it into law.
