Part of North Tyler Road Closes for a Week

The temporary closure is scheduled to begin Monday, June 24, and last about a week.

One of the roads Genevans use quite a bit to get to and from St. Charles will be closed for about a week.

St. Charles officials announced Wednesday that a portion of North Tyler Road, north of Main Street, will be closed for a week beginning Monday, June 24, 2013.

St. Charles Public Works Engineering Division Manager Jim Bernahl wrote in an email to East Side businesses and residents that the closure is necessary as maintenance work is being done on the city's sanitary sewer system. The work is being performed by an Illinois Department of Transportation contractor.

"This section of sanitary main is quite deep, so preserving the safety of motorists and pedestrians is critical for these work activities," Bernahl wrote.

Roadway notification signs designating an alternative detour route will be installed by the contractor. The proposed route is through Hunt Club Drive to Iroquois Avenue.

The contractor also has been contacting affected businesses near the North Tyler/East Main intersection to make them aware of the temporary closure.

East-west traffic on East Main Street through the intersection will continue as it does now, but without the traffic from North Tyler Road.

Bernahl said the intersection is scheduled to reopen to normal traffic before the July 4 holiday activities.
