On the Web (Video Update): Lauzen Enters the Kane County Board Race Against Burns

And now there are two seeking to follow in Karen McConnaughay's footsteps.

Chris Lauzen officially joined the race for Kane County Board chairman in an announcement Saturday in Aurora.

The Kane County Chronicle reported that 800 supporters showed up at Lauzen's annual Porky Picnic fundraiser, which was moved to the Vaughn Center due to the weather.

Lauzen, the 25th District state senator, will be up against Geneva Mayor Kevin Burns, who  Aug. 9 on the government center lawn.

Unlike Burns, who said he'll stay on as Geneva mayor if he loses the race for the Kane County Board chairmanship, Lauzen told supporters he'd be leaving the Senate at the end of his term, according to a report by Erika Wurst of The Beacon-News.

Burns told the Chronicle's Brenda Schory that he was glad to see that Lauzen had joined the race and would "not be surprised" if others were to throw their hats into the ring.

Both candidates are seeking to follow Kane County Board Chairman Karen McConnaughay, who announced she would end her run as board chairman in order to seek the 33rd District state Senate seat in 2012.
