Next Methane Gas Update Coming Tuesday

The most recent update says no additional methane has spread.

Methane gas continues to show up in probes, but it hasn't been detected in any Batavia homes or businesses inspected last month, Kane County officials said.

Methane gas was identified in two probes, on Raddant Road and Orion Street in Batavia, and Waste Management continues to monitor methane levels around the Settler’s Hill and Midway landfills, according to a Dec. 30 message from Karen McConnaughay, Kane County Board Chairman. The message was also posted on the 's website.

Due to the holidays, the next report is expected Tuesday, Jan. 3.

"Though hundreds of tests have been carried out this month, methane continues to only be detected by two underground probes immediately south of the landfill complex—one located near Raddant Road, south of Fabyan Parkway, and one on the north side of Orion Street, between Surrey and Nagel," the County's message said.

The report suggests that homeowners in the area allow crews into their homes to conduct methane testing and install in-home detection devices.
