Let Hydrant Flushing Begin!

Geneva's going to do a massive flush, beginning today—Monday, April 4.

OK, yes, it's the day before the elections, but let's refrain from any jokes regarding the city's choice of dates to start the annual hydrant flushing.

They could have started flushing on April 1, for example, or on election day itself, on April 5.

So, having cleared the pipes on that issue (sorry), here's the news flash on hydrant flushing, courtesy of the city of Geneva.

Flushing hours will be from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Signs will be posted in neighborhoods 24 hours in advance of where the flushing will occur.

During the time when your area is being flushed, please refrain from washing clothes and try to limit the amount of water use due to the rusty water that will occur with this program.

It is the goal of the city's Water Department to scour the water main as best as possible using water pressure. This program is designed to improve the overall quality of the water by cleaning the water mains and to ensure that all fire hydrants work properly.
