Last Day for Early Voting

Today is the last day to take advantage of early voting for those who may be too busy next Tuesday to go out and vote.

If you are registered to vote in Kane County, you may cast your vote before next Tuesday's elections at a number of locations, but today is the last day to do so.

Voters can cast ballots early from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Kane County Clerk's Office at 719 S. Batavia Ave., Building B. For other nearby locations, go to the Kane County Elections website.

Chief Deputy County Clerk Jay Bennett said the totals from yesterday were 4,738 people who had voted early. Bennett said that number is 28 percent higher compared to 2007, "and we still have voting today."

Bennett said the county decided to do a robocall reminding people to vote early last Sunday. He said there was a noticeable increase in voters–60 percent on Monday and 88 percent on Tuesday–as a result of the nudge.

"I'm very positive on early voting," he said. "Every year we compare the numbers, it's increased."

Bennett said an individual in the Clerk's office suggested the libraries as good locations for people to vote early, and they also provide later hours for those trying to juggle busy schedules.

"People are so busy today, they're preoccupied with so many other things," he said.

Bennett said the libraries that have coffee shops have seen an increase of business thanks to the early voters.

You will need to bring your Illinois driver's license, a non-driver ID card issued by the Illinois Secretary of State, or some other type of government-issued photo ID if you want to vote early.
