Kevin Williams Will Announce Candidacy for Sheriff

Williams will join Genevan Don Kramer as a candidate for Kane County sheriff in 2014.

When Kane County Sheriff Pat Perez ran for and won re-election in 2010, he boldly announced that he would not seek a third term.

If Perez sticks to that promise, it opens the door for a lot of sheriff's office candidates, and Geneva's Kevin Williams announced today that he's ready to step through that door.

Williams, a lieutenant of the Kane County Sheriff's Office, is inviting media to join him for his announcement that he intends to seek the 2014 Republican nomination for the Office of Sheriff of Kane County.

The announcement will take place at 5:15 p.m. Thursday, June 13, on the steps of the Kane County Judicial Center at 37W777 Route 38, St Charles.

Williams isn't the first candidate to enter the race, nor is he the first Republican or the first Genevan. Former police Lt. Don Kramer, 55, of Geneva, recently announced his candidacy for sheriff in the 2014 election, according to articles in the Kane County Chronicle and the Chicago Tribune

Williams formerly ran for sheriff as the Republican nominee in 2006, when he lost to Perez.

Williams, a resident of Geneva and graduate of Geneva High School, has been active in local politics and was even suggested by political activist Jon Zahm as a prospective challenger to Geneva Mayor Kevin Burns in the 2013 race. Williams, however, did not seek that office.

Kramer ran for sheriff as the Republican nominee in 2010.
