One of the many enjoyable parts about working for Patch is the opportunity to interview interesting people. Karen McConnaughay called in between legislative sessions, and we sat down for a cup of coffee at 318 Coffeehouse in Geneva.
As you might expect, McConnaughay has a lot of stories to tell and about her freshman year as an Illinois state senator, about how government works and, more often than not on the state of Illinois, how and why it doesn't.
Some of those anecdotes and observations are topics for another time. Many are serious issues (why Illinois government is so difficult to fix) while others are simply clever or curious (why every freshman is obliged to sponsor a bill.)
