In Their Own Words: Meet Third Ward Aldermanic Candidate Becky Hruby
Here's a brief autobiography of Third Ward aldermanic candidate Becky Hruby, who is running against Dean Kilburg in the April 5 election.
My background is in marketing/public relations. Upon my exit from the corporate world, my husband and I started Hruby Painting, a small business. Being a business owner, homemaker, mother and active volunteer in our community fills my days with many tiring and rewarding experiences.
I contribute to our community through regularly volunteering at in my son’s classroom and in the library, tutoring English as a second language (ESL) with Literacy Volunteers of the Fox Valley (LVFV), and teaching religious education at our church. I also support Anderson Animal Shelter with my time and donations whenever possible.
In regard to personal attributes, I have an open mind and a positive attitude. I view the community I live in as an extension of my family, and I want to do what I can to make it the best it can be. I believe the best way to accomplish anything is through communication, compromise, patience and following the golden rule. I strive to approach everything in life with a balance of intelligence and common sense.

Editor's note: Geneva Patch invited candidates in local contested races—for Park Board, School Board and City Council seats—to tell us a little bit about themselves in 300 words or less. Candidates also are invited to submit a final essay prior to the election.
