Important School Board 'Retreat' Meeting Is Friday

Key issues about Geneva schools will be discussed, including instruction, facilities, the boundary adjustments process—and how all of these initiatives will be financed.

Geneva School District 304's Board of Education has an annual "retreat" meeting, where the board discusses critical issues and future needs.

This year's meeting is at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Coultrap facility.

Rarely have there been so many key, controversial issues before the School Board, from the burden of a $300 million debt to the possible demolition of the historic Coultrap building to school boundary changes—all pinned against a backdrop of recently completed teacher-contract negotiations and a recommended 1.5 percent tax levy increase.

Among the items on this year's agenda are a facilities master plan, the instruction program, full-day kindergarten programming, the process for changing school boundaries and board policy development.
