Hultgren Wins Friendly Wager With Ryan on Friday’s MAC Championship Game

Northern Illinois University beats Kent State in 2 OTs at Ford Field and Randy Hultgren wins Boogie Board from Tim Ryan.

Congressman Randy Hultgren (IL-14) won a friendly wager he initiated with Congressman Tim Ryan (D-OH-17) on last Friday’s Mid-American Conference Championship game at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan.

Hultgren represents No. 21 ranked Northern Illinois University (NIU) in DeKalb, Ill., and Ryan represents No. 17 ranked Kent State in Kent, Ohio. The NIU Huskies defeated the Kent State Flash at Ford Field in Detroit, MI, in two OTs Friday.

The congressman representing the losing team will present the Congressman representing the winning team with treats from his district. Hultgren has offered up a holiday basket from Graham’s Chocolate in Geneva.

“I look forward to sampling the gift basket of gourmet goods from Kent’s local bakeries and the Kent Displays Boogie Board that Rep. Ryan will be sending from Ohio, because I know the Huskies are going to win tonight,” Hultgren said before the game. “Coach Doeren and the team have had an outstanding year.”

Last year, Hultgren made a similar wager with Congressman Bill Johnson (R-OH-06) when NIU faced the Bobcats of Ohio University. Per the terms of that wager, Johnson later made a speech on the House floor congratulating NIU on its victory, while holding an NIU helmet.
