Hot Dog Stand Coming to Third Street? For a Few Days, Perhaps

Heaven Lee Hot Dogs cart could be on Third Street in time for the Christmas Walk on Dec. 6 and Dec. 7.

Geneva's South Third Street is known for its deep setbacks, historic homes converted into quaint shops, destination stores like The Little Traveler and All Chocolate Kitchen and fine dining establishments.

And now, for a couple days perhaps, it could be known for its Heaven Lee hot dog stand.

The Geneva City Council Committee of the Whole on Monday night heard a request to locate a hot dog stand on private property at 426 S. Third St. from Dec. 6 to Dec. 7, 2013, in time for this year's Christmas Walk.

The city's Economic Development Department received a request from Joe Snellgrove to operate his hotdog cart, Heaven Lee Hot Dogs, on private property in front of 426 S. Third Street.

According to the executive summary by city Business Development Specialist Paul Evans, Snellgrove hopes to locate his hotdog cart on private property on the west side of South Third Street just west of the sidewalk. Snellgrove's wife, Marcia, operates a consignment store called Accents By Marcia on this property, owned by Dr. Kevin Haddle, who has approved this use on his property.

Snellgrove has operated his hotdog cart in DuPage County for years. Upon approval from the city of Geneva, Snellgrove would be required to fulfill the Kane County Health Department requirements and obtain an itinerant vendor license from the city, Evans said.

The cart does not need any electricity or water and will be taken in daily.

The proposed location is located in the B-3 Zoning District, which presently does not allow for temporary outdoor sales. Staff is working on an ordinance that will address the specifics of temporary outdoor sales and the concerns of the city, its business owners and its residents.
