Historic St. Charles Law Office Could be Relocated

The historic Jones Law Office at 302 Cedar Avenue could be relocated to a site near the public library, on the northeast corner of 6th Avenue and Illinois Street, if a proposal by preservationists is approved next month, according to the Chicago Tribune.

St. Charles resident Pat Pretz presented the proposal to move the building to the library's Board of Trustees last week, the Chicago Tribune reports. The library board is expected to discuss the proposal during its June 11 meeting.

The 1840s structure was built by Steven Sandborn Jones who moved to St. Charles from Vermont, was one of the first attorneys in the Fox Valley and is "credited with naming the city after realizing a downstate town already had the name Charleston, St. Charles' original name," according to the Chicago Tribune.
