Geneva Garbage Sticker Prices To Increase July 1

Submitted by the city of Geneva

Geneva residents will pay 13 cents more per refuse/yard waste sticker starting Tuesday, July 1, but they may continue to use any previously purchased yellow Advanced Disposal stickers without penalty.

Sticker prices will increase from $2.85 to $2.98 in July. A refuse/yard waste sticker must be affixed to each garbage can/bag, yard waste bag or garbage item set out at the curb for collection.

The price of a 20-gallon garbage bag will rise 8 cents from $1.85 to $1.93 on July 1. The monthly rental fees for refuse toters will increase less than $1 for the following sizes:

• 35-gallon toter: $19 to $19.86
• 65-gallon toter: $20 to $20.90
• 95-gallon toter: $21 to $21.95

Residents who use the 20-gallon garbage bags or rent a refuse toter do not have to attach a yellow garbage sticker.

Garbage stickers and bags can be purchased at City Hall, 22 S. First St.; the City’s Finance Office, 15 S. First St.; and select business locations. A full list can be found on the City’s website (see link below).

They should have plans for billing people without having people to buy these stickers. I know that the people who are single or elderly that live alone it is great for them but the garbage company should provide them a billing plan that meets their needs too. Even for the lawn bags. Where we use to live I was able to put 3 or unlimited bags of brown bags for $65 a year. That is so much nicer than having to buy a sticker for each bag.

I see they do have plans for people to rent the canister but there should be a plan to fit everyone needs. The waste of paper and ink for each sticker. Plus you are already paying a tax for the garbage in your tax bill.

With stickers you pay only for what you use.

I don't live in Geneva but only a couple of miles south. Many municipalities formerly did bill a flat amount on property tax bills for garbage and waste removal. It did not fairly treat people you referred to in your first post Michelle because the charge was the same whether you put out one bag/can per week or one bag/can per month. Tracking usage and billing households accordingly, if even possible, would be a nightmare and eminently more expensive and guess who would absorb that cost, the taxpayers. East's post is correct in that now you only pay to dispose of what you need to. I doubt if in Geneva you still have a line item on your tax bill for garbage removal in addition to the stickers. I know we do not in North Aurora.
