Geneva Election Day Blog—6:30 PM Update (Where to Find Election Info)

Updating the 2012 Primary from Geneva's point of view all day Tuesday (and maybe into the wee hours of Wednesday morning)!

6:30 PM UPDATE—Where to find stuff (and other contingency plans

As you know, to tally up the totals for the Kane County races, you need to add the Kane County results with the Aurora Election Commission results. We'll do that for you. (Assuming there aren't any major glitches.)

The AEC website link is http://www.libertysystemsllc.com/results/.

3 PM UPDATE—A straw poll and a party

And on the lighter side ...

Poll bearers?

While we're waiting, let's take a straw poll. For some reason or another, I find the fascinating. Maybe it's the Quincy versus CSI analogy, maybe it's the contrast between the candidates. Maybe it's the hope that either of these fine gentlemen will actually give you a call back, once he's in office. (Chuck West, among , was notoriously hard to reach.)

Scroll to the end of this to take the straw poll. Who do you like in the coroner's race, the MD or the Sgt.?

Where the boys are

We're not at liberty to pass around invitations, but here are the places you'd likely find Geneva Mayor Kevin Burns and state Sen. Chris Lauzen as they await election returns Tuesday night.

Burns is going to be at the  in Geneva, starting at 7 p.m.

Lauzen is going to be at Alley 64, 212 W. Main St., in St. Charles, at about 8:30 p.m./8:45 p.m.

More on the DuPage glitch

1 PM UPDATE—More yikes!

Still no word from Kane County on the website status for election results. We'll keep you posted.

                                                *   *   *

Across the state, CapitolFax.com is reporting that 65 of 102 counties might be forced to hand-count ballots that are filled in with markers. I believe that does not include Kane County, but I'm not certain, and I will have to ask about the Aurora Election Commission. Voting is expected to take longer and (I'm guessing) it could be a late night for statewide results.

                                                *   *   *

From all accounts I hear and from what I see on other Internet sites, it sounds like voter turnout is very low today. Mostly the anecdotal testimony is from folks who said they went to their Geneva polling place and said, "I was the only one there."

                                                *   *   *

With apologies, I haven't done much in the way of reporting on the Kane County Board 11th District race in the GOP primary between incumbent Mike Donahue and challenger Robert Janura. The Kane County Chronicle website and the Daily Herald website have the candidates' profiles, but Janura didn't fill out the form on either site. The wonderful Susan Sarkauskas of the DH did a nice profile of Janura, which you can read here.

11 AM UPDATE—Yikes!

I just called Kane County to make sure I've got the right link for election results. Apparently, it's not working right now because there's a server issue. We'll keep you posted as soon as we know more.

Outliine for tonight's coverage: The plan is to have stories on the following races, with an emphasis on what we think will be of interest to Geneva folks:

The Kane County and Illinois results for the .

The for Kane County Board chairman, plus Sarto-Klinkhamer results on the Democratic side.

The other , including contested races for auditor, coroner, circuit court clerk.

The race.

The state senate race.

The  state house race.

The  state house race.

The  state house race.

And bunches of other stuff you probably don't care all that much about!

One of the nice things we'll do for you tonight (God willing) is combine the totals of the Kane County and Aurora Election Commission, so you won't have to.

9 AM UPDATE—Good morning!

Went and voted today at Chesapeake Commons, 1490 Geneva Drive. My election judges included star and Geneva photographer and TaxFACTS member .

I didn't bring my camera this year, because I didn't take the time to get the necessary blessing from the Kane County Clerk's Office. I made the back in November 2010—my first election coverage as a Patch reporter—of trying to take the traditional, mundane election-day photo and was surprised when a called the Geneva police. Good times.

Hey, LIKE Geneva Patch on Facebook, would you? :)

                                                *   *   *

Did something weird with my voting in the presidential primary—I split my ticket by voting for Candidate A but NOT voting for all of Candidate A's delegates. I know it's wrong, but I can't help myself sometimes.

First Patch question of the day: Did you do that? Fess up.
