Geneva Assessments Published—Aug. 8 Deadline to Complain

The deadline to file 2013 assessment complaints for the properties within Geneva Township is Aug. 8, 2013. No complaint for property in this Township can be accepted after that date.

The 2013 assessment changes for Geneva Township are published today in the Kane County Chronicle and on the Geneva Township assessor's website.

Now, you have until Aug. 8 to appeal if you think you're property is over-assessed.

Here's how it works:

After all revisions and corrections by the Township Assessor are applied, an equalization factor of 0.9553 was applied to all non-farm property in the Township.

The Geneva Township assessor is Denise LaCure, and you can reach her by phone at 630-232-3604 or by visiting the Geneva Township website. That's where you'll also be able to search for your property-tax assessment, either via your name, address or parcel number.

Pursuant to state law, the deadline to file 2013 assessment complaints for the properties within Geneva Township is Aug. 8, 2013. No complaint for property in this Township can be accepted after that date.

Property Tax Workshops Continue July 16

The Kane County Board of Review will again offer Property Tax Workshops for Kane County taxpayers in 2013.

The next workshop is set for 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 16, in the auditorium of Building A of the Kane County Government Center, 719 S. Batavia Ave. in Geneva.

Additional workshops are scheduled for July 30, Aug. 6, Aug. 13, and Aug. 20, Sept. 3, Sept. 10, and Sept. 17.  All will begin at 6 p.m. in the same location. The workshops will:

  • Help taxpayers understand how property taxes work, including how government spending affects property taxes. 
  • Dispel myths about assessments and their relationships with property taxes.
  • Explain the assessment complaint process, and provide the necessary forms and rules for filing complaints.
  • Provide an opportunity for taxpayers to make sure they have all homestead exemptions to which they are entitled. 

The workshops are not forums to discuss any specific individual assessments; these questions are best directed to the Assessor of the Township in which the property is located.
