Festival of the Vine, GHS 9/11 Tribute and More—5 Things You Should Know for Friday, Sept. 9

It's the start of a big weekend in Geneva. Patch will keep you informed of all the events and goings-on for the days ahead.

Here are five things going on today, Friday, Sept. 9:

1.  with a ceremony at 7 a.m. Even though most high school students were under the age of 8 when terrorists attacked the World Trade Center, their feelings about the events remain strong.

"This ceremony is not merely to grieve the horrific disaster of Sept. 11, but to remind us of the importance of learning from this all-too frequent historic example of how inhumane humankind can be," the GHS invitation states.

2. Geneva's annual with a fresh flower market by at 10 a.m. at the old courthouse lawn on South Third Street. Other events include in-store wine tastings trunk shows, and much more.

Festival of the Vine celebrates all things wine and food, so make sure to stop by this weekend to enjoy some of the delicious events. Here's the . 

3. The live play, at the . Bleacher Bums is a play about a day in the life of Wrigley Field’s outfield bleachers.

The show was conceived by Joe Mantegna and written by him and other members of Chicago’s Organic Theater Company in the 1970s. It was first performed by the Organic Theater in 1977.

4. optometry shop will host its  from 5 to 7 p.m. The show will feature the work of photographer, Denis Kruk.

5. Fun Fact: Today is National Wiener Schnitzel Day. While American's love their chicken fried steak, the concept is not new to Germans (or Austrians), In Germany, a veal cutlet is used as a base to the breaded and fried dish known as wiener schnitzel.
