City Council Welcomes Home Staff Sergeant DiBenedetto

Monday's meeting includes a soldier returning home and a presentation by the Fire Department.

The temperature outside City Hall hovered around 90 degrees Monday evening. Inside the building, however, U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Ryan DiBenedetto talked about his tours of service in Iraq and Afghanistan under even harsher weather conditions. He was officially recognized and welcomed home by the City Council on behalf of the city of Geneva.

Following DiBenedetto’s recognition, Fire Chief Steve Olson gave a presentation that provided an accreditation update for the Fire Department. The department hosted a site inspection in May and was found to be compliant with standard fire practices. Because of this compliance, the department will be considered for a five-year reaccreditation this August.

The site inspection made nine recommendations for the Fire Department, which Olson assured the council would be addressed within the year.
