City Council Votes on Tax Levy Monday Night

The is scheduled to vote Monday night on the proposed 2011 tax levy.

At the Committee of the Whole meeting on Nov. 14, aldermen voted 6-1 to recommend approval of a total levy would go up from $6,261,929 in 2010 to $6,421,027 in 2011. That's an increase of 2.4 percent.

That represents about an $11 increase to the average homeowner's bill, Alderman Craig Maladra said on Nov. 14.

At the COW meeting, 1st Ward Alderman Sam Hill voted against the recommendation to the full council, saying basically that any increase in this economy is too much.

Unfortunately, I can't be there tonight, so you won't see a Patch "QuickStory" afterward. That's all the more reason to attend the meeting yourself or watch on Channel 10.
