Patch's Klatch of the Titans: A Geneva Election Forum You Won't Want to Miss

Set your calendars for March 20—when Kevin Burns goes toe to toe with Bob McQuillan and eight candidates do a musical chairs dance for four School Board seats—in a candidates forum at Williamburg Elementary School.

Where's Don King when you need him?

In a world where apathy is rampant, where too few pay attention to national politics, let alone the local, we need a boost of some sort—a promotion, a way to get folks to pay attention to Geneva-centric issues that arguably affect our lives more than who sits in the Oval Office or the governor's mansion.

If a boxing promoter can put together a "Thrilla in Manila" or a "Rumble in the Jungle," maybe what the March 20 candidates forum at Williamsburg Elementary School in Geneva needs is a name.

The "War at Williamsburg" or "The Battle of Williamsburg"? "The Prayer for Mayor?" "The Fiord for First Ward?" "The Spree for Trustee?"

The title of this shindig is "Candidates Forum on Fiscal Responsibility," which doesn't exactly trip off the tongue, but it does give the forum a focus, and that can be a good thing.

"Dollars and Sense: A Candidates Forum on Fiscal Responsibility" is maybe a little better, but will it pack the place? Will voters pay attention?

TaxFACTS—the Geneva citizens group that takes a hard look at local spending—is the organizer. The group itself is a bit controversial, with its share of supporters and critics, so maybe there's something to play off of there.

"TaxFACTS and FICTION: How Do Geneva Candidates Measure Up?"

Perhaps the celebrity angle would attract an audience: "Who Is Jenny McCarthy Voting for on April 9?" Certainly wouldn't hurt search engine optimization.

Yes, Geneva Patch is co-sponsor of the event, mainly because I agreed to moderate and because Patch kindly provided the insurance certificate.

"Patch Klatch of the Titans: Who Will Be the Next Mayor of Geneva?" Hosted by the "Nattering Nagel of Negativism," to borrow from Spiro Agnew.

Would you attend?
