Batavia Mayor Jeff Schielke Seeks Re-Election

Batavia Mayor Jeff Schielke said on Monday that he's going to run for re-election next year, the Daily Herald reports. So far, Schielke is running unopposed.

In Geneva, Geneva Mayor Kevin Burns has announced his intension to seek a fourth term. He is challenged so far by TaxFACTS advocate Bob McQuillan, who told the Kane County Chronicle last week that he would make a run for mayor.

In St. Charles, four people have thrown their hats in the ring for the the opportunity to succeed St. Charles Mayor Donald DeWitte, who decided not to seek a third term in order to devote more time to work and family. The St. Charles mayoral candidates are Jake “Wayne” Wyatt, 3rd Ward Alderman Raymond Rogina, John Rabchuk and Jotham Stein in the race for St. Charles’ highest elected office.

The list of prospective leaders in these races could be just the tip of the iceburg. Other mayoral candidates have until Dec. 26 to file petitions.

Schielke has been mayor of the City of Batavia for more than 30 years. He was first elected to the seat in 1981.

Schielke wants to see Batavia Project Streetscape to its completion, the Herald's story said. The project involves a to make them more pedestrian friendly.

During the last mayoral election in 2009, Schielke defeated two challengers—Britta McKenna, former executive director of Batavia MainStreet and Alan Wolff, who has been Ward 2 alderman for about nine years.

City elections will be held on April 9, 2013. Each office is a four-year term.

Like many other suburban mayoral offices, the Batavia mayor position is part-time. Schielke works in real estate and was formerly a journalist.

Schielke is an avid historian and is often seen documenting events with his camera.
