Aliano's Update: Salmonella Cases Reported in Different Groups, On Different Days

The restaurant remained closed on Wednesday. Here's more information on the salmonella cases.

The reported cases of salmonella possibly tied to Aliano's did not involve the same group of people, and they were not reported on the same day, the Kane County Health Department said Wednesday.

The six salmonella cases initially linked to Aliano's Ristorante, 90 N. Island Ave., in Batavia were reported separately throughout the week of Sept. 10-14, said Tom Schlueter, County Health Department spokesman.

"They were reported through doctors," he told Batavia Patch of the cases. The doctors saw symptoms of, or identified the salmonella illness, in some of their patients.

Symptoms include diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps 12 to 72 hours after infection, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Aliano's temporarily closed its business on Friday while the health department's investigation into the salmonella cases started. The restaurant has remained closed since.

A cardboard pizza sign taped on its front door had the following message:

"Sorry for the inconvenience. We will reopen in a couple days. Thank You!"

Aliano's official website and also its Facebook page do not mention the investigation or the temporary closure at all. One Facebook fan asked why the restaurant was closed and another asked when they would open again. No response to those questions was posted.
