GOP Gathers With an Eye on Post-Election Unity

Jeff Ward offers a recap of Saturday's Young Republican gathering.

For two hours on Saturday, the Kane County Young Republicans played host to a GOP “unity party” right here in Geneva at Riverside Receptions.

The prime purpose of the Saturday morning soiree was, in light of some rather contentious primary campaigns, to heal those still open wounds, let bygones be bygones and bring Kane County Republicans back together.

Of course, the biggest challenge facing the YR’s was that this gaggle was never “together” in the first place. When you consider that local Republican township meetings frequently devolve into something right out of the movie Animal House, mounting that kind of diplomatic effort was one tall order.

In an impressive showing, the KCYR’s managed to pull off the almost impossible with aplomb. Both primary victors and vanquished spoke to the gathering on the merits of coming together as a team to ensure a positive November.

As usual, coroner candidate Bob Tibali had the crowd in stitches while coroner nominee Rob Russell’s speech stressing the value of forgiveness was probably the most poignant. Auditor winner Terry Hunt thanked everyone for their support while county chair nominee Chris Lauzen issued a call for all Republicans to unite in the name of good government.

Kane County Republican Chairman Mike Kenyon capped off the morning’s festivities by thanking the Young Republicans for their excellent efforts and extolling the virtue and wisdom of holding an event calling for party peace.

This event is yet another argument as to why KCYR chairman Tim Stoll will most certainly be going political places. If you ever seen his name on the ballot, please be sure you don’t pass it up.

A Kane County Republican who works to build bridges? Now, that’s something I could get used to.
