Young Driver Charged with DUI After Crashing Into Light Pole

The following information was supplied by the Geneva Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

A 22-year-old Geneva man faces charges two counts of driving under the influence after his car side-swiped a light pole on Fabyan Parkway.

Geneva police arrested Colton Harris, 22, of Geneva on charges of DUI, DUI with blood-alcohol content of more than .08 and improper lane usage after the passenger side of his Ford Explorer collided with a light pole at around 10:45 p.m. July 8 in the 400 block of Fabyan Parkway, reports said.

Harris refused treatment, and two passengers were uninjured, according to reports.

More than $1,500 damage was done to the vehicle. The light pole, located in the 400 block of East Fabyan Parkway about 500 feet west of Surrey Street, is owned by Meade Electric Co. Inc., but there was no dollar estimate of the damage in the police report.

Harris posted $300 bond and has a court date of Aug. 8 at the Kane County Judicial Center.

Records show on charges of possession of cannabis at around 1:46 a.m. June 22, 2012, on a public sidewalk. According to the complaint with the 16th Circuit Court, Harris was charged at that time with having about 1.5 grams of marijuana in his possession.
