Weekend Fire Damages Home Northwest of St. Charles

Fox River & Countryside Fire/Rescue District and seven agencies assisted in combatting house fire.

Firefighters from seven agencies on Saturday battled for more than an hour to contain a fire that caused an estimated $350,000 in damage to a rural home just northwest of St. Charles. There were no injuries.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, according to the Fox River & Countryside Fire/Rescue District.

Firefighters were dispatched to the fire at 5N353 Crane Road at 11:44 a.m., and arrived in eight minutes, where they found a two-story home with a well-involved fire, with heavy flames on the front and one side of the home, according to the district.

The house was set back from the road, which limited access to it, and the area is not served by fire hydrants, according to the district. The initial crew set up to attack the fire, including establishing a tanker shuttle to haul water in to combat the blaze.

The fire district said concerns about structural stability limited fire crews to combat the flames from outside the home.

The fire was upgraded to a box alarm, which brought in crews from South Elgin, Pingree Grove, Elburn, Burlington, Batavia, a tanker truck and crew from the city of St. Charles, Sugar Grove, as well as personnel from the Kane County Sheriff’s Office and the Kane County Office of Emergency Management.

The fire was under control one hour and seven minutes later.

According to the fire district, there was extensive damage throughout the home, its roof and flooring.

The fire district estimated damage to the home at $250,000 and damage to contents at $100,000.
